I would advise against it. You are isolated on an island and weather is getting worse. There is extreme racism especially in Suffolk county, Nassau too.

there is EXTREME poverty and drug use in the lower income parts of LI and gang violence. Not to mention the loads of illegals that form gangs out there that work the farms. Add in all the biker gangs and cops that live out there. LI ain’t a good bet for raising a black family.

you have a better chance at peace and less racism in NJ. Also NJ has by far better school systems than LI.

Them NJ state taxes though.

Ive been to Staten Island twice.

The memorable of those was for a rap battle out at Richmond Hood Company (skateshop) in September 2016.

Breh...I'm in the same boat.

I am in BK, too. Fort Greene. Family is expanding and the co-op I ownnisng big enough.

I just can't fathom living in Long Island...too scary regarding the experience my kids will have.

I also want them to be able to be "city kids" and know how to take the train, go to corner store, etc without looking like a deer in headlights.


I'm probably going to really settle down in Queens - St. Albans, Laurelton or Cambria Heights.

It fukking sucks that Brooklyn is unfathomably expensive.

Op, I lived in Cambria Heights for two years when I was younger and my best friend's moved from Flatbush to Valley Stream years ago when they got their money up. Unless you're in those towns close to queens like Elmont or Valley Stream I would move south. The only reason my friend isn't a weirdo is because his formidable years were spent in Flatbush. And Cambria, Laurelton, Rosedale are nice middle class communities but for those prices you can get way more land down south, and those schools in that area are trash so you gotta pay for private school or do the queens way of 3 buses to get your kids to school

Elmont
West Hempstead
Baldwin
Western part of Freport
Roosevelt (all black)
Western part of Amityville
Bellmore (its become mixed over the past 5 years).

My wife and I have been looking into transition from Brooklyn out onto Long Island, preferably Nassau County. We have two little boys( 2 and 5 years old) as well. Can anybody suggest decent, safe, diverse towns? I was thinking about Valley Stream. But that incident with the racist cac harassing that Black woman gave me pause.

Honestly breh the racism seems to be everywhere. Ideally if we could find a spot with a nice little backyard and not too far out, that would work. My wife's initial search led her to a beautiful house out in Moriches. One Google search led me to find out that town is 95% cac, which was immediately shut down. Not looking to move into that type of situation. There has to be better, more diverse options than that.
