My wife and I have been looking into transition from Brooklyn out onto Long Island, preferably Nassau County. We have two little boys( 2 and 5 years old) as well. Can anybody suggest decent, safe, diverse towns? I was thinking about Valley Stream. But that incident with the racist cac harassing that Black woman gave me pause.

Are you still considering long island?

In nassau county the towns for us would be (south) Valley Stream
Elmont
West Hempstead
Baldwin
Western part of Freport
Roosevelt (all black)
Western part of Amityville
Bellmore (its become mixed over the past 5 years).

We taking over Bellmore next?

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Any black New Yorkers looking to move to the suburbs should seriously consider New Jersey

I am and so is my best friend. West Orange to be exact. Taxes are high but the prices of homes are more fair compared to Nassau and possibly Westchester.

Rockland County NY is another good suburb to move to as well.

Essex county is also plurality black and the Oranges Bloomfield maple wood Montclair are all very nice areas that are cheaper than NYC. Would love to see even more brehs in Jersey. Central Jersey is also nice if you want more space / cheaper housing / less of a need to go to the city

Rockland looks nice but I can’t with the Jews there

Not totally against Jersey or Suffolk County....just looking to keep the work commute to a minimum if possible. Any recommendations?

Suffolk is much worse then Nassau

Its a far distance too. I moved to apart of Queens where I’m close to Long Island and I’m still about 45 minutes from the Suffolk Border.

Theres also parts that resemble the deep south looks wise and mentality.

places like valley stream and elmont are decent places to live in Nassau.

There Nassau but especially Elmont is so close to the city border it’s almost like living in Queens

Valley Stream and Elmont have a very similar layout to Rosedale and Cambria Heights. Valley Stream looks cleaner than Rosedale though, it's a village so it has better amenities.
NYC lets tons of trash build up along the Conduit from Rosedale all the way to Ozone Park.
