I agree with her but I can't cosign her shooting that shyt on Fox news, of all places. She should have known the okie doke was in place as soon as the cac on the far right started nodding his head in agreement. Fukk outta here

People can't keep running from Fox News if they got something to say. They have a audience that can be swayed too.

I don’t think reparations can be passed through executive order. The money would have to be approved by Congress. The way the process works is that the president submits the budget then congress have to approve it. If she have proof that reparations can be passed without congressional approval I’ll change my opinion.

Yes. It can.

US to Japanese Americans
During World War II, the US had its own concentration camps. Starting in Feb. 19, 1942, by executive order of president Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 125,000 people of Japanese descent were interned due to the unfunded suspicion that they would conspire against the US. Many of them were American citizens, but were nevertheless forced to relocate from their west coast homes to inland camps. The estimated losses for the community were estimated to be several billion, both in lost productivity and property income losses. In 1948, Congress issued a reparation fund of $38 million, and then awarded each survivor $20,000 in in 1990. About 80,000 people claimed reparations, for a total of about $1.6 billion

This is making my point. It clearly stated Congress issued the fund. An executive order is nowhere in this quote.

this is dumb. its just asking to not be satisfied

It's not. And I agree with her. I would prefer for her and all other candidates --- to say she is committed to help passing and advocate for the H.R. 40 to pass. In addition, make the commitment to pass reparations via an executive order after the study concludes.

On a controversial issue like reparations, it should be the president who steps up to the plate and commissions a study because state actions like making official apologies and reparations should ultimately be led by heads of state.

Presidential action is also necessary because it’s the surest route to a study, and such a study might be the only viable first step in the process because it could grease the wheels for a more productive national discussion on the issue. And on a controversial issue like reparations, improving the terms of the debate is essential to moving forward.

Reparations Won’t Start With Congress. A President Needs to Do That.

I support reparations as well, but it is important to know how the political process works so we can implement the correct strategy. I still don’t see any proof that reparations can be passed through an executive order. Yes the president can take the lead in the discussion, but the president won’t be able to pass it without congressional approval. Again i’m willing to change my opinion if proof is provided.

By the President issuing an executive order - it gives ADOS a claim. The executive order can be for the study -- then they go from there -- creating a bill -- or passing the H.R. 40 with a resolution attached.

Like the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 - Wikipedia .

there are several reasons why the JapaneseAmerican reparations claim was successful under the individual rights paradigm. First, the Japanese-American internees’ claims addressed a specific executive order and ensuing military orders. Second, the challenge was based on then-existing constitutional norms. Yet, more importantly, a congressional Commission and the courts identified specific facts that proved a violation of those norms. Third, the claimants and the government agents were easily identifiable and those governmental agents’ wrongful acts were the direct cause of harm, stemming from the imprisonment of innocent people. Lastly, while the damages were uncertain, they were fixed by time and limited to survivors.

The internment is by executive order. The Congress issued the reparations.
