you don't have to install anything on the ssd except the os...gaming doesn't need it to my knowledge for video editing I'd imagine the rendering would be faster if you have a capable cpu, but other then that know actual advantage while actually editing

Games and programs run better from my SSD because the response is quicker. The loading is faster.
So I install all programs to my SSD and use my regular drives for storage.

The advantage to editing is that switching between templates, presets, etc is immediate. From Sony Vegas to Paint.net or whatever I am working on.
Its noticable cause I used to work on a regular drive before I bought my SSD.

I'd also reccomend a 64bit os if you guys are not using them.
And get Waterfox as your browser.

edit: Oh... and when you are editing video, whenever you hit play the draft plays. There is no delay to load the file. Not waiting that second seems like it wouldn't make a big deal... but the whole PC just seems responsive in a way it doesn't without a SSD.

the OS doesn't "need" a SSD either, but it makes everything better. with games you get much faster load times, and it can help with streaming issues in some open world games

when I first got my SSD I thought it was only good for the OS. but after putting a few games on there, I copped another (bigger) SSD just for games
Yeah, mine is basically full just from games and programs.
I need another one also.

Its so very worth it.
The difference in quality is immediate. Its like driving a stick-shift when you were using automatics all your life. You never want to go back...

Yeah internal is better, for real. Why do you need an external ssd?

Run the virtual machine on a USB 3.0 thumpstick if you need portability. They make them real large now, and they're cheaper than an internal ssd. I think I got a 128gb USB 3.0 stick for like $64 a year ago. They're probably cheaper now.

I was asking if standard USB 3.0 externals were sufficient to run the VM, and thanks.

You can run OSs off thumbsticks or externals. Just set the boot order on your motherboard to read the external or thumbstick first.

I`m using VMware Fusion on my Mac, I haven't played with VMs since college so I know it can be done just wasn't sure about the efficiency.
