I'm on my way. Starting nursing school in half a year or so. :blessed:

Trying to get that travel nurse bread and see the country at the same time.

Question!

Overtime on travel nursing contracts, is it generally possible to work as much overtime as you want to? Or do hospitals prefer their travel nurses to work the minimum so they dont have to pay as much?

First, Congrats! We need more nurses and I’m happy to see more brehs enter the nursing field!

During covid, I was actually allowed to pick up as much as I wanted because the hospital was desperate. Now that’s it slowing down they limited how much I can pick up now.

I still get paid good but not as much as I did during the pandemic….

Yessir.

A lot of Black men sleep on this job, but low key it is a great wealth builder.

A breh can even get a master of nursing and become a anesthesia RN.

Base salary is between 180k-200k

But please let them know, nursing school its not easy, it's damn stuff. That curriculum is serious, particular if you're not a Science person

It's not hard.

Nothing is easy, and alll will be accomplished with hard work and consistency.

I know guys who aren't the smartest who graduated with an BSN and are making 6 figures.

It's very doable.

As breh said before you can do 2 years community college and starts as a practical nurse, or you can complete the 4 years in university and start as an RN.

If I were in your shoes I would do the RPN first. You will save money for the first two years of your studies, and more than likely the hospital will pay for you to academically upgrade to RN (year 3 and 4).

By the time you get the RN you will have the experience needed to become a travel nurse.

You are looking at about a 4-5 year journey, but it is worth it. Trust.

Are there any good jobs at a hospital I can get right now with only a two year degree in Business Management? That is what I have currently.

Can I jump straight out into becoming a travel nurse? Making stupid bread and getting months off got me intrigued. I’m ready to wipe old ass.

You need experience before you can start traveling. A year should be fine, you may not be able to get the highest paying gig with that experience, but you can get your foot in the door.

From my experience, they do not want you to do OT. Paying time and a half for a traveler is obviously way more than a staff nurse. If they're desperate, sure, but I wouldn't come in expecting it.

What duties did you have as a travel nurse? Do you have any specializations?

Same duties you have as a staff nurse. Possibly less because you're not usually having to be charge (this varies honestly), not in charge of any teams, nor do you have to do all those nonsensical trainings and what not. I work as an operating room nurse and I scrub and circulate, that's my specialty.

Patient satisfaction or experience "person"? I don't know the exact name but there's a liaison type of position between patients and staff. I don't know how lucrative it is or if it's even a cool gig. But if you want to do actual patient care, you're going to need some type of training for most positions.

I don't know about the admin side of things.

The most I know you could do with that degree, depending on how long ago you got it, is negotiate with the college or university to substitute your credits for any general elective credits the nursing program requires you to take.

This is true, but CRNA school is EXTREMELY expensive. We're talking six figures in student loans.
True it's expensive, but most people won't get a CRNA until they have already worked enough to pay for the school. I got a lot of family members who are crna and are doing fine financially. Didn't start the journey to become crna until they had 10 years under their belt and were stacked.
