Mazda takes an aggressive performance and styling approach that more polarizing than Honda ... Toyota has effectively caught up and passed Mazda in both categories.

The relationship with Ford years ago tainted reliability reputation with some models. It stuck for years.

I see your point though. Toyota's not at Mazda level of refinement with aesthetics, but they have gotten way better over the years since about 07.

The Camry's dash material would literally melt in the sun.

You have a point. They are better now not massively greater than Mazda.

Mazda’s feel cheap as hell

they’re the kias of today

Maybe years ago when they still had a relationship with Ford. They've been moving up market and reliable ever since the split. They don't have a separate luxury brand so they just compete with the higher trim levels

Consumer Reports Ranked Mazda as the Most Reliable Brand of 2020 | MotorBiscuit

The next Gen Mazda6 is supposedly gonna be rear wheel drive with a new in-line 6 to compete more directly with the 3 series
