I think having an interest, or awareness of various 'celebrities' and their gossip isn't an altogether unhealthy thing, and people are entitled to their own interests….but, what I find so repulsive and just sad, is people who have no clue what goes on their own communities, or cities, much less the nation, and no clue about the rest of the world….but they can keep you up to date on the Kardashians intimate family details.
A lot of comes, in my opinion from many people having kind of mundane and 'ordinary lives', which ties in social media, IG/facebook and all the shameless attention whoring and attempts to glamorize ones lives….The celeb worship is a byproduct, if their own lives are mostly dull, routine, say a 40 hour work week, then 2 days out at the club…the Kardashains constant excess and drama seem pretty fukking exciting. Women are mainly guilty of this, in my my observations. Also, whats disconcerting, but not surprising is the way people look up to these kind of celebs, who are almost exclusively known for just their looks, which devalues women and places absurd expectations upon themselves…Like, do you REALLY aspire to be a trophy wife? That ties into society as a wholes obsession with beauty, sex, and from a male perspective the insatiable desire to acquire that beauty as another accessory.
Also, a good amount is just intelligence….I'm not unaware of celeb gossip, I'll browse through a People magazine, or participate in a thread here about a divorce, but i can speak in politics, writing, film, television, history, current events, local new, any number of topics, intelligently.

I can't even listen to the breakfast club as much because a topic of the day is "do you kiss after oral" or "is beyonce pregnancy a sham"
I can see your view too.

But ... the way it's force fed and always the main topic of some people's lives is sad.
And alot of people compare their lives to celebs and even their peers on social media and it causes depression and other issues.
I think it's just like anything else...too much is bad for you
