Do a little research, there are a ton of companies out here...

Check he video game company "telltale" (they make the walking dead rpg)

Check out ChariotSF... They just started and haven't even opening offices yet that I know of... But they made a shuttle service for commuters in SF...

A lot of good businesses taking chances out here...

I don't necessarily disagree with your point. His father is a professor at the school so I guess he gets free tuition :yeshrug:
For sure... Yeah the guy I was responding too, was giving out advice as if 2.2 is no different than a 3.5 and that isn't a good piece of advice to give out to people who are taking out loans or paying out of pocket up front for school...

But nikkas on scholarship or getting free tuition, shyt, have a ball and do whatever :salute:

I graduated with a 2.59 w/ biology degree and I worked while in school. I have been employed since I graduated school 2011. I know from experience that gpa does not really matter, just like what TZiggy said it's experience. Starting out I just did basic lab work, you know getting your feet wet. Then I did my year and a half and bounced; and found a better job doing formulations and running more complex test.

Really it's about getting that first job and grinding there and learn everything; then push to something better. The only time a gpa comes into play (as far as a career/working/even graduate school) is for research positions and also weeding out/making the company look better. The reason why some colleges and employers have gpa requirements is to say "the people who work here or graduated from here averaged 3.5 and above gpa's." Really it's all for show.

Also on the other hand a person with a high gpa ex:3.65 with no work/volunteer experience; would not get picked up because they just studied and probably can not balance different factors. As apposed to a person whom graduated with a 2.67 gpa and worked 2 part time jobs and volunteer; they would get pick up faster because they demonstrated excellent balance of school and work.

not looking at the freshman year GPA is false for med school applications. There obviously are cutoffs for GPA as well as the MCAT. You are only going to get a thorough scrutiny once you get through the minimum barrier

Yeah I was going to chime in on that. Adcoms may look at an upward curve favorably in your grades if you had a so-so freshman year, but when the average matriculant has a GPA of 3.7 (and the Avg GPA is steady rising, making admissions more competitive than they already are) then yeah, your frosh year is still extremely relevant. Every little B or C matters.

From first hand knowledge this is 100% completely false.

I know a guy who failed calculus twice. Just isn't that great at school. But can destroy and rebuild your car in 30 secs or less.

I think education has alot more to do with interest in a given subject which will result in better comprehension and retention of information

being smart isnt as black and white as people like to think

I bet if you give stephen hawkins or Neil Degrasse Tyson a NFL playbook he wouldnt understand any of the diagrams or the X/O's but give that same playbook to a football player and he can decipher what plays with some or relative ease....does that make SH or NDT stupid....obviously not

Bill gates and mark zuckerberg dropped out of college but I doubt they would have a hard time finding a job if they needed

Just my two cents :yeshrug:

Bill Gates and Zuckerberg found that school didn't provide the opportunities that they wanted to do. They had no choice to drop out to focus on developing MS and FB.

But still if they were to look for a job elsewhere, I doubt the person would care they didn't finish.

Not saying college GPA doesn't matter after you graduate it's just not that important. Good grades doesn't translate to a good work ethic all the time. You have to prove yourself in other ways

:wow: I hate when people use bill gates and mark zuckerberg as an example of not going to college or not finishing college. Those are most dumb ass responses I hear because mark zuckerberg was writing software in middle school and bill gates wrote his first computer program when he was in his teens and scored 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT. Then they both went to Harvard. I get into arguments with catz in the hood about college and they use those examples, what you doing in middle school and high school? You was not doing that, were you.

People never use Sean Combs, Daymond John. Also Daymond John is dyslexic and he was only diagnosed when he was 17, so he had to work harder than any of his peers. Imagine is Daymond was diagnosed earlier and received treatment. Ummm I wonder why people never mention those two brothers? White privilege :sas1:

Political Science lol. yeah I know a lot of people are going to :mjlol: cuz im prob not gon get a job off the strength of that but I always had grad school in mind after my bachelors(was thinking masters in public policy and public adminstration or masters in marketing or management) . However since Law enforcement or jobs like border agents don't require that. A nikka just done with school may go after but that's unlikely. Though I got this as a stepping stone if I want to do something else.

I didn't use those two as an example to NOT go to college. I'm in college myself. My point was to not get so hung up on a graduating GPA when some of the most successful men in the world dropped out and DONT even HAVE a graduating GPA . So by adding diddly and daymond, especially daymond, you proved my point

It really depends on what you plan to do after college and whether the particular company you're applying with checks for grades. If you intend to go to grad school, obviously it's important. And some "prestigious" companies will check grades and/or have minimum GPA requirements.

But a lot of companies really only check to make sure you have the degree and don't really care about grades much. At my current job, I did have to provide my transcript to HR to prove I graduated, but there was no GPA requirement and I'd pretty much already had the job offer by that point anyway.

In any case, I would say that it rarely matters after your first job; at that point it's more about experience and who you know.

Believe me, experience is way more important than GPA on the job market. That good GPA might help you land that first job, but that's about it.

Now for grad school/advanced degrees, you gotta have a good GPA, cuz it goes into their regression equation to determine if you will succeed or not.

But, like somebody said before, good GRE scores can cancel out a not so stellar GPA.
