:whoa: Now before some of you go on a tirade, this is simply my opinion.

Now, I'm a very huge Horror fan and have seen hundreds of movies dealing with a similar backdrop to The Conjuring. The go-to movies dealing with a haunted house seem to always be either Amittyville or Poltergeist. Now, while those 2 set standards for the time they were released, I want to say The Conjuring set new standards for today's horror film which is really comprised of a lot of cheap scares and gore. You don't find any of that in this movie. One component to horror movies I think that's heavily lacking today is suspense, and this movie has more than some can deal with, especially if you're going home alone that night :usure:

The movie takes place in 1971 and starts off getting into the background of the real life couple The Warrens who investigate the Paranormal. One of their cases (a very creepy one I might add) is brought up during a lecture (which really sets the tone of what you'll experience later on in the film). We then learn about the Perron family of 7 (Married couple with 5 daughters) who move into their new home in Rhode Island on the countryside. At first everything seems to be fine, but almost immediately weird little occurrences begin to happen until it becomes apparent that they need "help", which is where the Warrens come in. Now what I like about the movie from jump is that the family isn't looked at as crazy like you'll see in some other movies when a family is trying to explain a paranormal experience, etc. Right away The Warrens open themselves to the family and begin to see exactly what's caused them terror practically every night since they moved in. I know for a fact James Wan studied guys like John Carpenter and Alfred Hitchcock because he brings a very similar suspense element that you rarely ever see. The scare itself isn't the payoff in this movie because you know it's coming, but the build up towards it is very reminiscent to the original Halloween where the suspense was the payoff more than the scare.

Overall, it's a fun movie to take your girl to and to enjoy the audience reactions too, which where I saw it was another show in itself LOL. For horror fans, I can't see how one cannot like this film.

If you have seen Insidious, Paranormal Activity or The Exorcist then you've seen everything in this movie. It's a technically well made movie but not too scary. The acting, setting, and music were great though.

I'm a big fan of Insidious and I was hyped for this and wanted to love it but there was just nothing new here.

last 15 mins just turned in ANOTHER lame exorcism scene :comeon:

I read nothing but good things about this movie, but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

It had me jump a few times, there was a few freaky scenes they had. I liked it but it was pretty much the same formula. I also read there was going to be a sequel.

I'm happy that a lot of the horror films that have been coming out for the last 5 yrs are getting away from the gory, serial killer steez and actually putting suspense back into horror films.

The suspense and weird music (that reaches its climax) when the tension is deep in each scene is what really got to me. :ohlawd:

This is the first hyped horror film that I've seen that was actually worth the hype.

No it didnt make me wanna read a bible, no it didnt make me afraid to sleep at night :comeon:

All in all, it was a great horror film and I will be purchasing it on bootleg when my dvd man get the directors cut :myman:

This shyt was type scary :merchant:

Unlike the other flicks in recent years involving ghosts and paranormal life, this seemed more genuine and real...
