Rap isn't what it used to be. To most white folks it was a trend and it's mostly faded. The only way to make it as a rapper now is to be bigger than rap. The Kendrick, Cole, Drake type artist have transcended it. Mostly gone are the days you could just be a normal rapper and have a hit single and maintain any sort of relevance.It occurred to me that quite often, becoming a rapper isn’t an objective. It’s not a goal.
It’s a Plan B.
Couldn’t run the dope game? Be a rapper.
Couldn’t pan out as an athlete? Be a rapper.
It’s almost how failed comedians and writers become conservative podcasters.
