:rudy: nikka, ever heard of diminishing returns?

They thought we'd have hover cars standard issue by now :comeon:

Tech advancements are only going to slow from here

We ain't jumping to the damn matrix in 20 years my nikka.

diminishing returns only happens when you hit the physical limits of a technology

hover cars are technologically possible....they are just not cost effective......same thing with flying cars......they have been possible since the fukkin 1940s......they just aren't safe or cost effective

digital materials however have been falling in price exponentially which is why you can get so much of it today for the same price as you did yesterday.....we are no where close to hitting the physical limits of computing technology......read some books from people in these fields before spouting off ignorance you read on a message board stupid

don't confuse digital products like computers with analog products like cars......digital materials advance exponentially......that is why your laptop in 2013 is 1000x more powerful than your laptop in 2003 (assuming you bought new laptops each of those years)......your car isn't 1000x more powerful because its not subject to Moore's law

educate yourself on technology, science, and current rates of progress and maybe we might have a sophisticated conversations......if your just gonna spout off ignorant nonsense then shut the fukk up

I wonder what happens to the education system when these events start poppin...

School will be pointless if you can upload your fukking brain into super computers.:ANYWORD:

schools are already pointless

look at how many college grads can't find jobs

we'll be able to upload any skill we want instantly like in the Matrix

:mindblown:

I'm trying to imagine living in a civilization like that. If everyone could upload knowledge then what kind of jobs/career would there be for anyone? Would individuality even exist? Would we even be human anymore?

:whoa: I don't know if I want all that...

@ tellin me to read

no i got what you said and destroyed your stupid argument

arguing that computing technology won't continue to progress at its current pace by citing flying cars only proves to me that you lack the requisite knowledge necessary to even understand what i am saying

ever heard of Moore's law? how bout information technology? read some books on computers and why they are different than cars and maybe we'll talk

otherwise please leave this thread because you're too ignorant to understand what is being discussed

no there won't be any jobs. we're already pretty close to that. why do you think the jobless rate hasn't changed any even though the economy has fully recovered from the recession? because robots are replacing what used to require humans. and they are getting smarters.

in 20 years there might not be many jobs left

and once we enter a post-singularity world, we'll cease to be human. we'll become a new species. however you shouldn't fear this. remember how much better life became once our ancestors evolved to become humans

now we're just talking the next step in evolution when we go from man to gods :blessed:

:yeshrug: never said it was certain

an asteriod could hit the planet.....the AIs could turn on us.......a fukkin quasar could sterilize all life from the surface of the earth

however, as long as we can survive as a species it will happen eventually

technology has been progressing since the birth of our species....we went from rocks and stones as the most sophisticated tools 1 million years ago to handheld computers and spaceships today

who the fukk are you to say something will NEVER happen? we evolved from single cell bacteria to conscious beings. if that is possible......how can anything i've said so far be impossible?

I know one thing and that's that 20 years from now Kojima will still be saying he's done with MGS before announcing Metal Gear Sunny 2: Daughters Of The Patriots.

Do you think private industry won't jump at the chance to have no labor? We're already there in some industries. Just watch them fall like dominoes. Pretty much any industry outside of arts and entertainment are gone in 50 years. That's includes medicine, law, computer programming, driving, manufacturing, teaching. Societies will have some hard questions to ask, as will industry. Who will buy their products? The answer will probably have to be governments, who distribute funds or goods by some other determining factor as labor becomes obsolete or they just plug us into a "Matrix", OR we all live lives that lead to different artistic pursuits.

This is the future. No consoles, controllers or screens, just a pair of goggles with a built in EEG(brain wave response) systems.

Testing the Oculus Rift Development Kit: Team Fortress 2 Virtual Reality - YouTube

Emotiv EPOC heads-on - YouTube

this is just the near future (next 5-10 years)

oculus rift is just the start. imagine it as pong. over the next decade however VR googles will get lighter, better resolution. there will be more integration of the other senses with haptic gloves and omni tracks.

However, the holy grail won't be reached until we get full immersion VR. That means locking out all senses in the real world and having only artificial sensory data coming from the games. That won't happen till we can have non-invasive brain-computer interfaces. And that will require nanotechnology. The good thing is we know how to do it and those steps are just starting right now in university research labs. We just have to wait 20-25 years before their commercialized and cheap enough for a mass audience.

Once that happens. The world as we know it will change FOREVER. People will start living in virtual worlds more than they do in the real world.
