I've been growing it for 2-3 weeks, usually get it cut once a week.
For now Ima just lower it a lil bit to see how I do,
if im successful than i'll give it a light fade and let the top grow in.

kinda like ^that but not as high on top.

If not than its hats for 2 weeks :to:

Yo don't try to give yourself a fade or none of that shyt until you get real nice with the clippers and a hand mirror. For the first few times I suggest just going with a just a regular all-around haircut and to go against the grain so you'll be sure you get all the hair and it'll be even & so you don't have to worry about the crown of your head. For the line up, just try your best to follow your natural line in front & on the side. When you do the back of your neck i suggest you turn off the trimmer and just move it around the back of your neck to get a feeling of moving your hand in relation to the two mirrors.

It won't be perfect the first couple times, but when you finally get the cut right, the feeling is like :ohlawd:. Its like leaving the barbershop with a fresh cut but x1000

Basically trial and error, I've been cutting/shaping up my hair on and off again over the past 2 years. I can line myself up decently, but it ain't going to look like I came out the barber. :manny:

I have been doing it for about 3 years. It takes some time to get it down perfect, but I got it down :obama:

Saves $15 a month

I've been doing it off and on for like 4 years, but after moving to Atlanta over a year ago and not being able to find a barber I'm satisfied with, I started doing it myself permanently. Like most said, it's trial and error depending on your personal preferences. But i do have a few tips for you though.

1. If you have waves, never cut against the grain or your waves will pretty much be gone...

2. If it doesn't look even just keep going over it and slightly alter the angle your cutting at. You probably just aren't cutting in the actual direction your hair is growing.

3. Be the most careful on the corners for your shape up. That's probably the most difficult to get right.

4. If you mess up on your hair line at all... STOP IMMEDIATELY. 9 times out of 10 your just gonna make it worse if you keep messing with it. Just let it grow back in a couple of weeks and try again. If you mess it up to bad it might not be fixable.

5. Always start with a larger sized clipper guard. If it's not cutting it low enough, you can always go down. If you start to low, there's no going back.

6. When you start of just let other people help with the back. And just have them block it off so it's easy.

7. Stick with a Caesar... You won't have the talent to do anything else until probably a year of good haircuts. I still can't execute a taper well after 4 years. But I'm also not willing to buy the right guards to do it the best.

Just a few tips

I've been cutting my own hair since 2009. It's not hard at all. I had to learn from trial and error just like everybody else. If you mess up, DO NOT keep trying to fix it, you'll only make it worse. Also, keep a steady hand.

I tried this recently. Didn't go too well. Messed up on the back. Went too high with it. Luckily its not too high on the back of my head and I didn't cut it low enough. Only issue is I'm known to get razor bumps back there so its a bit more noticeable. Had a friend fix me up and said he got me whenever I needed a cut. So I would recommend letting someone tape the back atleast. The rest is just trial and error.
