We all know if you wanna signify rap knowledge, you have to act like jay z ain't been shyt since The Black Album. shyt, if you wanna signify super duper rap sophistication, you can even act like Jay aint been shyt since before that.

But no artist can stay the same as they were at their peak, the conditions and context for that era isn't the same.

Never the less, let's look at post TBA songs that are indisputable Jay classics.

ROC Boys
Blue Magic
Success
Ignorant shyt
The Prelude
Do You Wanna Ride
ESOM
On To The Next One
Real As It Gets
nikkas In Paris
Otis
Nickles And Dimes.

You telling me these aren't dope records? Man, we need to re evaluate jays catalogue from Kingdom Come. He has had a lot of dope moments. He isn't as nimble a rapper as he was, but he still more than good enough.

He's had his "moments", yeah. But he lost a lot of his thunder.

He also seems to be growing increasingly self conscious about his age and over compensates by boasting about how successful he's become.

Jay Z is just not a very interesting rapper anymore to be honest.

What does this mean? This sounds like rap bro pseudo speak. And who do you consider interesting?

Dude has always bragged about being successful. Plus, thast is probably the most unique thing about him now, so why shouldnt he talk about it? It would be dishonest not to.

:laff:

Nah.

Ignorant shyt is a dope track but doesn't count because it came out before Black Album.

I'd add "Primetime" to that list of tolerable but still substandard Jay-Z songs. I'm not big on "Lost One" either but it's one of Hov's better beats since retirement.

Hov's beat selection went to shyt after he retired. And you already know he slowed down his flow/bravado so it's a wrap from multiple perspectives.
