The more decants you sample, the better you get at identifying what notes you gravitate to. And which ones you tend to dislike.

Granted it changes over time. A fragrance you’re into at 25…you may not like it at 45.

For me, I’m really not a fan of floral notes, green notes, and powdery profiles.

There may be the exception. Prada L’Homme and Gentle Fluidity Silver sit well with me. They’re more on the fresh side than powdery or floral.

I say this because it’s important to know what you like. A fragrance might be hyped or loved by the vast community but if has notes or a profile you don’t vibe with, it is not worth your money.

I have spent a few hundred bucks at least on bottles and decants of stuff that’s well-rated, that I never touch.
Yea I feel you…. My worst purchase was Creed Viking… got it with my aventus wayyy back in 2016 I believe …. Sprayed that shyt once and never again… joint gave me the stanky face… even my aventus I’m not a fan of… granted I had lost the bottle for a few years and found it again years later in one of my luggage’s … felt like I outgrew it and also… i tend to avoid very popular colognes … I try to anyway… if it’s nice I’ll cop … but I always layer up anyway… not trying be somewhere and someone having my scent …. So I layer 2-3 colognes at all times 🤣

learned a lot in a short time from sampling. my biggest switcharoo was going from avoiding safe and popular stuff to some of the safest and most popular shyt really catching my attention. i see how overthinking it can drain your wallet and leave you stuck with some bullshyt.

joop stinks to high heaven now btw

I almost bought this decant off your recommendation.

Maybe next time. I thought it might be too fruity for my tastes.
Won't lie it's very fruity but not feminine leaning IMO and unisex. I actually layered it with another fragrance called Pure Money from Scentual Obsessions to keep the fruitiness in check and made it smell more clean.
