If a woman orders a 75$ steak before you get there,she is trying to be slick and doesn't want to give you the oppurtunity to say no. But this is why I get to know a woman before I take her out anywhere. As men you should be doing this automatically for your own safety,reputation,and so you can let her know your expectations,and see where her head his at. If this guy in OP wasn't so thirsty for a date,he probably could have pegged her as a gold digger through phone communication. If you fake flexing all over social media and catch a gold digger,or has a woman entrap you,its hard to feel sorry for you. You weren't protecting your assets that you obviously find important.
