Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Most current list for the brehs asking

Sorry but :mjlol:

All these companies selling "4K" and "HDR" and only about 15-20 are real from 4 companies

To be listed, the television must support the HDR10 standard at the time of writing (not including "upcoming firmware updates"), must support 10-Bit color (as defined by Rtings, which includes native 10-bit panels without 8-bit banding and 8-bit panels with dithering to create 10-bit colors), and of course have a 4K panel. Input lag isn't really a decider, although if you're a competitive gamer, it should definitely be taken into consideration.

Peak / Sustained brightness has not been used to give or bar entry on to the list, but if there's demand for it, I can create a multiple tier system based on brightness and 10bit vs 8bit coloring. There is of course a difference in HDR quality based on brightness potential of the display.

Yeah it's pretty bad. Truth is over the last 2 years if you didn't buy a TV model that's within 3 models of the most expensive flagship TV your shyt doesn't have real HDR. 3 models under the flagship is about a $1500 TV @ 55in and more for a larger size. If you got it on BF maybe you got it for $1000 or slightly under that.

Why they're allowed to put HDR on the box of a TV that doesn't have the proper hardware to display it and can really only decode the signal is baffling to me but that's what self-regulation of an industry gets you. Companies making up their own rules and bending them however they see fit.

3K? :what:

What kind of Coby Electronics ass TV did you grab breh? :wtf:

Stay away from any LG model that's not a top end one. They aren't really 4K they're 3K. Basically if you bought an LG TV this year and it's not model UH77 or higher it's not really a 4K TV because some of the pixels are share and they use trickery to get around it.

Like I said these TV manufactures lie their asses off. Never buy a TV without doing research on it.

I have 55 inch "4k" lg tv and a 40 inch 4kv vizio

LG low to mid tier TVs use shared white pixels so the total RGB pixel count is lower than a normal TV that doesn't. It's something LG only does to cut cost.

Don't get so caught up in resolution. Look at the other things that make picture quality great and u will make a better and more informed purchase. In other words. Who gives a fukk about 5K or 8K TV's right now. While u can get a 4K TV right now that will prolly have better overall picture quality than both.

Trying to stay ahead of technology is a waste of time. I bought a Sony 55 inch xbr 1080p 2 years ago when I could of had 4K for twice the price. 2 years later, still not much content. I woulda paid all that extra money for what exactly? Now we hearing about hdr. It never fails. Early adopters usually end up wasting a gang of money. When 4K content is being pushed out everywhere I will buy a 4K tv with a much cheaper price tag.

Seems like the whole rgbw debate is from samsung marketing against lg.

Samsung didnt want LG to be able to use UHD badging because they are saying a white pixel shouldnt count.

Tizen (the maker of the video above) produces the OS for Samsung products:martin: what side you think theyre gonna take?

Faux-K: RGBW LED TV Spoils 4K UHD Resolution & Colour
Samsung is right here. Content is produced for RGB now RGBW. LG is pulling some BS. I mean they all do but if you look at LG's top LCD and OLEDs models they don't have that RGBW shared pixel nonsense.
LG’s OLED TVs famously use this subpixel layout that has allowed the company to establish dominance in the large-screen OLED arena. However, there’s one key distinction in the way these new RGBW LED televisions are driven: each white subpixel is shared between the adjacent RGB subpixels, which means that each row on a 3840×2160 RGBW LED LCD display will only have 2880 subunits that are capable of reproducing the full range of colours.

This is where the definitions get murky. UHD resolution can be crudely defined as 3840×2160 pixels, which an RGBW LED TV will have no problem satisfying if only a black-and-white pattern is used as the passing criteria. But by replacing every fourth subpixel with a white one, the result is a 25% decrease in the number of separately addressable RGB subpixels. Detractors of this technology argue that RGBW LCD TVs shouldn’t even be sold as 4K TVs, since 3 out of 4 three-subpixel arrays (RGB, WRG, BWR, GBW) cannot express the full range of colour information found in RGB video.

Meanwhile, proponents of RGBW LED LCDs cite lower power consumption, higher brightness, and perhaps most importantly, reduced manufacturing cost as the advantages.
Trying to stay ahead of technology is a waste of time. I bought a Sony 55 inch xbr 1080p 2 years ago when I could of had 4K for twice the price. 2 years later, still not much content. People keep saying there's no content but there is. All the major streaming services are streaming in 4K. There are UHD movies released on Blu-Ray and we now have UHD consoles. You'll probably not gonna get broadcast TV 4K but you don't have broadcast TV 1080p now and nobody says there's no 1080p content.

You made the right choice though. 4K sets from 2 years ago are pretty much crap now. No HDR, probably not HDCP 2.2 compliant and probably don't have HDMI 2.0a.

Anyone in the market for a TV now should just hold tight for a year or two more if they can and most of these standards should shake themselves out. Now is just not a good time to buy a new TV because everything is still in flux.

This is why I waited. I will continue to wait until 4K is broadcasted by all the stations.

Is there any good forums or sites to tell us what's coming next

In most industries, you know what tech is on the horizon so you can plan accordingly. I want a 4K but I don't want to buy one now and they come out with some amazing shyt next year

Hey we got hdr 20 now brehs

But if next year all we get is some minor shyt, I'd gladly buy a cheap version
The new models usually come out in the spring thats why i usually buy new tvs in February because thats when you can get the previous years flagship for dirt cheap

You usually can find the best deals the week before the superbowl
