From even just the music, you can clearly hear the difference between the Bay and LA. That's why I still love listening to both.

2 areas not TOO far from each other, but definitely different.

Their weather is even different. My wife went to San Francisco about a decade ago and she was like "you'd love it here, because it can actually get cold"

What makes them different from the rest of the west

We're different here because our major development came after the south and east coast's did. We're still fairly "young" in the grand scheme of things. It's why we have the moniker of being the wild west, the last of the frontiers to be tamed. A lot of people migrated here when the docks were created and that's when our boom began. People either came for opportunity or to get as far away from wherever came from so that they could be themselves. Also, because creatives are more valued here, you get less folks trying to be standouts and commercialized versions of their work, so those types tend to gravitate more towards LA since they won't get much attention here where originality and independence is paramount.

This is more of an overall california thing, but our niceness towards others is often seen as more superficial than other regions because our state is often treated more like a stepping stone for opportunity by people that make their way here, so a "networking" attitude is more prevalent here than in other areas of the country where there's a deeper sense of community.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
Certainly a unique region, but way too expensive for what you have. The Bay is sprawl on steroids...

You have possibly the most diverse and integrated region nationally, but the black population is dwindling and dwindling rapidly in many areas, and there just really isn't a large black middle class here. Either black people are impoverished or pretty well off, with more of the former, of course. And you see waaayyyy more black people dating out in The Bay than in LA, that's something people shyt on LA about but it's more prevalent up north and people don't even tall about it...

Nothing inherently wrong with dating out for me, it's just worth mentioning that an area with fewer black people has more of it going on...

The Bay gets alot of outside love, "outside" meaning non-Californians, for being kind of the antithesis to Los Angeles. People like The Bay for its contrasts with LA...

Personally, one of the more overrated areas of the US but to each its own...

This right here…

Cause the way I hear people not from California make comparisons between the two rarely checks out, especially on the topic of Black folks. There’s differences no doubt, but outsiders get it wrong 99% of the time IMO.

As a native Southern Californian, I always got a weird vibe from Bay Area folks. Just more aggressive, just a chip on their shoulder type attitude especially people from the East Bay.

It’s cool up there, but I’d never live in the Bay Area.

Nah it's more black people dating out period in The Bay...

Not necessarily correlated but there's more black pride in LA...

I live in west Oakland and I see a lot of black women dating out literally daily. Not so much black men. But hey maybe it’s like that in your city
