It's a well written, well acted, shot well show. It also has a great lead character in Don Draper and good supporting characters. The problem is that I am not interested in the subject matter...AT ALL.

I tried giving it a few tries, but it just doesn't hold my attention after a couple of minutes because I am not interested in how the characters live their lives or that part of that era in general.

I tried to watch it. I couldn't get into but can easily see why others would like it.

If you have a short attention span then its probably not the show for you..Thats not a shot.. I felt the same way you did after the first 3 episodes of season 1...But if you are willing to watch how Weiner meticulously bakes the cake in form of character development and story, the payoff is greater than any show you will ever watch outside of The Wire..

Also if you havent had a lot of life experiences then the show might not appeal to you either...Some of the scenarios that Don faces in the later seasons hit such a nerve as a married father that I dont know if the same perspective can be viewed by a young single person..If you've ever tried to start your own business the show also hits the mark..Its not a mass appeal show and I totally understand why some people will never enjoy it..

People watch films and tv to escape or be excited and entertained.. The mundane life of these business men trying to balance career, family, addiction while coming to grips with their past is too "run of the mill" for some.. No train heists, drug corner shootouts, terrorist bomb threats or Russian mob wars...Just American life..

Agreed, especially what you're saying about the married man/Don angle and that most tv shows/movies are a matter of escaping reality, whereas this is more of a reflection of how it was back then. One of my fav. things about the show is recognizing just how much the world has changed since then and just how much it still hasn't in comparison.
