Idk LA politics like that but Long Beach, Compton, etc. are their own cities, which are technically LA suburbs.
LA folks can clarify, they might consider everything in LA County to be LA

It isn’t LA. It’s in LA county, but not technically LA.
There’s the city of Los Angeles and there’s LA county. Inside of LA county you have Long Beach, Pasadena, Compton, Carson, etc…
Compton isn't LA either
what rappers are actually from LA MY MIND IS BLOWN RN![]()
Yea I get why ppl get confused b/c there are neighborhoods within cities (Englewood, Chicago or Watts, LA) that are known, and then there are suburbs that people might think are neighborhoods within LA (Compton or Long Beach) but they're cities on their own.It isn’t LA. It’s in LA county, but not technically LA.

For the bolded, that's pretty much how it is everywhere. If you're from a Detroit or Philly suburb and you meet someone from a Seattle suburb, you're both going to say the city b/c one will know the suburb unless you're from that area.If you're from LA County and your OT, you're just gonna say you're from LA
but within the county yeah people from Compton, Santa Monica, Inglewood, Long Beach, SGV, etc rep their individual cities.
I consider everything in the county to be LA personally and most people out here look at the same, the culture pretty much spreads throughout the county in some way

I get what you're saying but Long Beach's population isn't factored into LA's population unless you're talking about the entire metro area which will be every one of those 100s of suburbs also included. The metropolitan or wider areas of the city are still considered part of the city.
Those who live in the heart of the city often have a problem with this description, but city population figures typically include the wider surrounding areas.
