For lack of a better term, what are some things an “FBA” person should do? Like if there was one place I had to visit, where would it be? What are some things I shouldn’t do?

Africa is a vast place, very different from place to place.
Some nations very developed, some not but the common denominator is Africans like Black Americans hate being disrespected and belittled, but if you come through friendly and willing to partake in what they do you'll be fine. Just be humble. Dont mention the US too much or how you do things, or things are better etc.

Having been to Ethiopia multiple times and Kenya long term..

People don’t want to admit it but they romanticize it a little too much, you just a foreigner to them and they will never see you as one of their own but it is still fun, good time and vibes..Think about this, they are very tribal in Africa with that being a big part of their culture and they have a lot of pride in it. I think most of the
interest/attention/interactions are because you are a foreigner, cause u got money, or just because you are new and different but there are some that are genuinely interested in the black American experience and culture. There are alot of genuine interactions tho for sure.

At the end of the day the travel experience is better because you are around more black people but that’s about it. Everything is just better being around more black people where y’all share alot of common ground . Traveling to the motherland is dope and way better than traveling anywhere else in the world in my opinion if u like black people... Just not a welcome home type experience, don’t get me wrong it is all love in Africa but alot of that come from their built in customs and courtesies in their culture. Their culture is still dope and our culture going downhill very fast..plus partying in Africa>>>>USA because people still have fun and dance…. I would rather listen to last last than back in blood while I’m in the club.

Did you get that warm feeling people talk about? Did you feel like you were finally home? Conversely…Did you have any wake-up call moments where you felt overwhelmed or out of place? How were you received by locals?
I felt like I was going Home. I did feel overwhelmed by the poverty, I was treated like family by the locals

Which country did you like more?
Both were unique in it’s own way. It’s really hard to say. I spent two weeks in Egypt and only 5 days in Tanzania. I did a lot more in Egypt as there really is a lot more to see and do in general given the history and all the important sites. Tanzania was more of a chill trip. The Serengeti is beautiful and seeing it with the backdrop of Kilimanjaro was amazing 😍. The Maasai people are beautiful and humble people as well. I’d recommend both

All I can say as well don't listen to the media etc. I remember when I was going to nigeria everything I was reading had me a little shook, it was actually brehs and brehettes on this forum who gave me tips and I had a blast.

Yeah I've noticed that, even with a lot of the travel YT channels. You can't go to the markets in Lagos or the gangs will shake you down. Like violence is always one step or misstep away. I understand there has to be some tension created between producer and viewer, but it seems like they go overboard. It's almost Trauma pornish.

I went to the markets twice first time went by myself even got lost and people directed me out to my uber, second time I went I had a nigerian chick with me

The average person won't bother you and most people are crazy nice. I had zero problems. I felt more problems in egypt being harrased

So do you remember when I said that I have a very Nigerian face? I remember going to a bar with some American friends and we went to go see his local friends. So one of the local guys arrives to the group and he gives everybody dap except me then he goes to his friends and ask who is this Nigerian guy in the local language (Twi). His friend then quickly tells him oh no that's not a Nigerian guy that's an american guy then he suddenly turns around and tries to give me dap. This is when I realized that contrary to the belief that all black people look the same that clearly isn't true. There was something about my face my height my complexion my stature and made him presume I was a Nigerian without even asking. It's certainly puts things in perspective.
