I kinda wish I went freeform

My locs are pretty much the same locs Lupe Fiasco has and same length

But now I kinda want that big Freeform lions Mame look. Is there any way to achieve that at this point? Or should I just cut it off and start over?

Team freeform :blessed:
Been growing these joints almost 10 years.
Never retwist but wash once a week. If I have a customer facing meeting, either pull them back in a ponytail or have the wife braid them back.

This is a tough one but totally up to you. I had my first set for 2 years before I decided to start all the way over but I made that choice after like 6 months of debating because I had the same thoughts that you did. Honestly, you can just stop getting them twisted and start where you are, cut them down some and start from there, or just cut them all off. To me, the lion mane look is really on how they fall and the root/base. When you freeform, most of that combines to form a thicker root. Now if you want all of your locs thick, then you might have to start over. :francis:

3.5 years. I used to get em done every couple weeks but now I give it about 3 months
Question for y'all that interlock, I've had dreads for like 2 years now but my locs in the front stick up instead of falling naturally in front of my face. Can interlocking make my dreads less stiff?
not sure, but personally, I wouldn't do it cuz you messin w/ yo roots, and u don't wanna tear lil hairs here and there tryna do so. Especially in the front where its most visible.

I just want the lions Mame, all of them don't necessarily have to be thick. Problem is my roots are skinny, any way to make em thick?

every 2.5-3 months.

anybody want to chime in on people who get a half inch of their lineup cut? does that actually save your line?:pachaha:

the hair is only actively pulling at your scalp for about a week after a retwist before new growth sets in, if that causes your hairline to recede then it was gonna happen anyway

Doing nothing, your roots are going to start creeping and combining and getting thicker on their own.
Same here, my roots @ the top were TOO skinny, but I just neglected them and it became thicker. I also would use

every few days and just wear my hair down

my cousin has had dreads his whole life (20+ years) and has the lions mane type dreads. Them mufckas long as hell, down to his thighs
im going for the skinny type cause i want to tie up the ones at the back and keep the front hanging:ehh:
but knowing myself i'll want to cut them and start over freeform within a year :russ:

question to anyone in here: I got my first twist in November, and have gotten 2 retwists since.
Last time I retwisted, the loctician said dont get them wet cause they will unravel (mostly the ones at the front, the back is locked). That was 3 weeks ago...i want to have the front ones lock but i gotta wash my head at some point. Dont plan on retwisting for another 5 weeks

I read about dry shampoo but i heard it can thin out hair. My head dont stink or anything but i keep seeing flakes, which i try my best to clean. What should i do?

I would just wash and condition them and then twist them a little bit yourself until you can see a loctician. I use the Jamaican Mango & Lime shampoo and conditioner myself. I also haven't had a problem with flakes since I started regularly oiling myself with coconut, black castor, or tea tree oil.

I usually go every 2-3 months. I'm actually getting mine done tomorrow by a new lady. I went and had a consultation with her and she answered all of my questions. The lady who was doing it previously was retwisting so tight that I have some dreds thinning so bad at my roots that I need repairing. This new lady cost more but I know how to keep the maintenance up so I can go a while before I need them retwisted again.
