Currently play college rugby, hoping to play adult rugby as well when I move to a big city. It's a great sport, doing what I can to make it grow. It's honestly not as violent as football due to the rules in place. Can't tackle too high or low, only ball carrier gets tackled, and there aren't pads being used as weapons.

As soon as I saw chiropractor I figured you were talking about Life U. Might be the best college rugby team in the US atm

Man, I played a lot of ultimate football when I was in the Army. I was the only enlisted member not ranked under E-7 to get invited. It was mostly Officers that would play.

Turns out, that shyt was a tryout to play on their Rugby team. shyt was fun as hell and we used to murder other teams from around the base we played. Between me, my LT (Ran 2 Miles in less than 8 mins), and another officer that I really didn't know, but was a decent player at a small college, we were unmatched.

There was some talks of us going from base to base to play (not sure If I would have been included), but we started ramping up to go to Iraq.

A few years ago, a dude at work found out I played some and He wanted me to join his team. I declined. I could deal w/ the bumps n bruises when I was 19, I wasn't gonna deal w/ that shyt in my mid to late 20's while putting a decent career in jeopardy. Plus he showed me footage of him playing. Them MFers were big as hell, nothing like the skinny ass officers I was used to play against.

I used to know some football players who played rugby as an offseason sport to stay in shape. It's a real nice combination of strength, speed, stamina, and getting to hit people. I never tried it myself though.

So far as alternative contact sports go, Australian Rules Football intriguing as hell to me.

Aussie Rules Football might be the best football on the planet. Most popular sports originated in a powerhouse like the british empire (rugby, soccer, cricket) or the US (baseball, basketball, to a lesser extent football since it doesn't have much worldwide appeal) but Australia doesn't exactly have the same kind of pull in global affairs otherwise this sport would be a lot bigger.

For those unfamiliar it's basically a hybrid of the good parts of rugby, soccer, volleyball, and even basketball while being played on a cricket field - basketball was inspired somewhat by aussie rules, specifically this right here
