Crazy as it sounds, Shawn was mostly open and direct for his contempt and disdain of Bret. HHH did his dirt trying to sabotage him & tried to be sneaky about it while smiling in his face. Even when you hate somebody, a man standing on the fact he doesn't fukk with you & being direct about it is more respectable than a coward that tosses rocks and then hides their hands.

There's also the fact that Shawn was definitely favored by Vince, but I don't think even his harshest critics would say he didn't earn his spot at the top of the card. Even with all that, Foley had to damn near kill himself so that the crowd would finally give Paul a reaction & take him seriously vs Rock & Austin.

Shawn was a dirtbag who habitually crossed lines that would have gotten a man on the street beaten to death but I'm not shocked Bret respects him in a way he can't for Levesque.

But he's also 60 years old and came into every match since 2016 with his shyt shredded because his body couldn't hold up with the training anymore. What's Bret supposed to do, square up with him? He's a crippled old man, in part BECAUSE of Oldberg, and everything he said about him is still 100% correct. It's not like Bret's been calling him out for a fight and is now ducking him. Bret is a real one, I absolutely believe he'd say the same shyt to Bill's face that he's said online for twenty years now.
