Kavanaugh did it an opinion with no stakes where his vote wasn’t the determining factor. If he goes with Thomas and co, it’s still 6-3. And Roberts gets to write the opinion.

Make this thread when hes the swing vote on a controversial issue. This thread is too much credit for a softball that will largely be limited to the facts of this case. This case will have limited precedential value.
The thread isn't saying Kavanaugh is some great pro-Black justice. He almost certainly will NOT be that.

The article is just about what happened in this one decision.

So what does he gain from this?

Honestly, cynical PR. Same reason he got all those women wrote those "He's such a nice man" op-eds (reminder that one of them now has a daughter interning for him which will be a massive boon to her career) when the woman he raped was being demeaned and debased every minute of every day for having the audacity to tell this alkie "no". :yeshrug:

He's on the right side of an easy decision, I don't think we should laud someone for doing the right thing because it's surprising. The expectation should be to do the right thing.

Those op-eds were an attempt to get him a Supreme Court seat. And they succeeded.

He's already a Supreme Court Justice for life, he doesn't need "PR" anymore. If he's gonna be making the right decision on cases just for the likes then I hope he keeps doing it.
