its kinda funny how beach boys are considered 'cac music' but like... damn near everything except the lyrics was cribbed from old black vocal groups. theyre not really my thing, but i can respect what brian wilson did in the 60s. songs like 'cabin essence' and 'heroes and villains' are incredibly progressive and unique for their time. iirc the beach boys first LP came out around 1961 or 62, so a lot of the later 60s rock groups were listening to them when they were younger.

not really thing but i know their material and as a musician i have to respect it. i agree with jimi hendrix, when he called them a corny old barbershop quartet gone 'psychedelic'

i actually really enjoy the music itself, its the vocals/lyrics i cant stand. if you can tune out the singing in pet sounds its some of the best burt bacarach ripoffs you'll ever hear.

thats the one with dennis fukking a girl during the fade-out right?

that's funny that they caught a stray from Jimi

all jokes aside though RIP, I know their hits, but I don't know a lot like you though breh

You can't tune out there singing its literally the focal point of their music. Is there a mixtape of Beach Boy instrumentals or something>?

God Only Knows is heat. RIP

Only of my favorite songs in any genre.

Yeah a lot of legendary musicians were messy as fukk. Go head and look up Al Green's personal life section on wikipedia.

Marvin Gaye’s personal life was fukked up.

And of course there’s Bobby Womack and Sam Cooke’s widow

@JadeB yeah, i guess this could be proto-shoegaze as a few of the elements are there. this is 1970? what do you think about don't worry baby?

im always hesitant to ascribe "shoegaze" to anything prior to cocteau twins but other proto-shoegaze records that were influencers on the genre would be like velvet underground and brian eno. I even think velvet underground had tunes out in the 60's like sister ray that had many elements like reverb and drone.

I haven't heard "Don't Worry, Baby" but I understand the hesitancy with ascribing shoegaze to pre-1980s music. Some shoegaze artists say Velvet Underground and this particular Beach Boys record gave them the "sauce" but they're aren't exactly shoegaze but proto instead.
