Access to education, to property, to healthcare, to cultural goods, to networks, to efficient infrastructure, generational wealth, ability to do unpaid internships, to travel, etc...would disagree with that statement. Obviously personal choices play a huge part, but not everyone has access to the same choices to begin with. But indeed, the right-wing way of thinking is that society doesn't exist and that every poor person, person in jail, sick, undereducated, etc...is in that position by their own fault. Very useful to brush away structural racism, for example, and to avoid adressing inequalities.
I don't care what would disagree with that statement doesn't mean there isn't truth in it. If you think personal choices play a huge part fukk you acting like I'm saying some wild shyt? Stop the Internet morality stuff. Nowadays most people have access to the basics through the way of the net and other things to potentially improve their lives at least in America. I don't know about you foreign cats. If you have a smartphone, house, car, taken care of you have most of what you need as an adult to make things happen. Of course some people get a bad hand but I'm not going to act like a lot of people don't also make bad choices just to seem more "emphatic". Like I said I'm talking about adults and if you disagree cool.
