I feel like rap music has destroyed the desire for aspiring musical artists to learn to play instruments.

Instruments are used to make beats in rap but in music videos or onstage they rarely show instruments being played. So kids growing up have the perception of "you dont need to learn all this istrument crap" and never learn it. Thus why almost all rap beats sound the same these days. Noone is developping new patterrn and especially in genres like rap and R&B who use a lot of loops...We need to turn this around brehs.:snoop:

Did rap kill live instruments or did laziness?

Pac used alot of live bass on his beats and TPAB instrumentation is top tier.

I do kinda agree with you though

Laziness mostly but what i was trying to say is as kids are growing up they see rappers and R&B artists and percive them as "musicians". Said rappers and R&B artists are hardly ever playing instruments or accompanied by someone playing instruments. Some kids these days think rappers just need beats and a DJ. They think said beats come from a "producer". Their perception of said producer is some loud mofo all over the video sitting behind a board playing with buttons.

A lot of producers are good musicians themselves (as in the play instruments) but they dont show that part of their craft to the public. Only person in R&B or Rap i've seen grab a guitar or some drums are Wyclef, The Roots, Lauryn Hill andI think i saw Kanye play drums in one video. Im sure there are plenty of others but just off top these are the few.

Our culture is too ass backwards. Having musical talent/multiple musical talents means you're lame. Having no talent (not even in your pinky thumb) means you're cool.

It's also the result of Reagonomics: when they reduced the budget for inner city schools, music classes, where young people used to learn to play and to love instruments, were the firsts to go.

And I think, but I might be wrong, that there is a link between that and the rise of hip-hop as the main music among young black people.

I'm play instruments. Puck one up and get to work so we can change something. I think we need to have live instruments in rap as a way to bridge the gap. Bring it back home.

Idk those HBCU bands still thumping and most black high schools put out great musicians but that is where they stop. It's a hard profession to get into and Make money doing. I know a dude you to post on here who was a pro sax player I think. @phortay or something like that.

Or the fact that most schools, especially inner city ones have completely scrapped their arts programs. When I was in HS there were guitar, piano, etc. classes but nowadays the only schools that offer those are private or rich school districts.

It's not. That's the point. Society deems it lame.

The ones who get the fame/attention are those who have no talent. Meanwhile if you are legit talented you might get a couple interviews before getting pushed to the side.

Would you rather listen to someone that can play the Sax? Or some shytty rapper with no talent?

Yeah, my cuzo just starting playing drums for some singer on her tour. There's a lot of black musicians in churches.
