It does seems he's gonna do great with no mask on, cream does rises to the top eventually and he's too great of a babyface to not succeed in the E'.

BUT, I'll always argue that WWE missed a huge opportunity by not letting him keep the mask. Dude could've reached Rey Mysterio level of popularity but whatever, Sami still gonna show the Universe why he's been the best babyface in the business since 2007 :ohlawd: :ohlawd: :ohlawd:

I'll always argue that the El Generico gimmick was too niche to really get over in front of WWE crowds, and would further hinder his potential in terms of how far he could rise on the card. If he had the mask, he'd be treated as a semi-joke character, no matter how good his matches were. Hell, we saw that to an extent when he was in ROH.

He's given himself a much better opportunity at succeeding in WWE by taking the mask off and excelling.

That's a risk he's gonna have without the mask too. And of course I was talking about his potential considering he would've gotten a legit shot with the mask. WWE "wasting" an opportunity of having a masked superstar works on a lot of fronts, them being :whoa: at that gimmick is one of them too.

All I'm saying is that it's riskier to try to be taken seriously as "endearing luchador parody" than as "quirky Syrian-Canadian ginger." I know that he did serious feuds at the indy level as Generico, but I doubt that he would get that opportunity if he brought the Generico gimmick with him to WWE. Taking off the mask opens up that avenue.

Of course, there's other things to consider (loss of merchandising opportunity, mainly), but they're things that good card placement, good feuds and resulting success can take care of.

You guys think they'll let him back into the Generico gimmick?

Why do that, he's already gotten pub as Sami Zayn for over a year in the WWE

More popularity + Mask sales? :manny:

Get used to Sami Zayn, let go of those Generico thoughts

It's not a total lost cause. You can incorporate the mask and, to an extent, the El Generico character without totally changing Sami Zayn. It's as easy as this:

You have Zayn come up and make his mark, as a babyface would. Folks fall in love with him the same way they did with Danielson, so on and so forth...

Let's say he encounters a heel of some sort or gets fukked with by the Authority...hell, let's say he has a storyline where he meets some pompous main roster guy "that doesn't like rookies". He gets a few lucky wins off on the vet, while getting his dope spots off. The vet challenges him to a match at the PPV with the stip being that Zayn has to go back to NXT if he loses. Zayn gets fukked over in the match and loses.

Crowd :pacspit: :dwillhuh: :to:

Next night on Raw, the heel talks some condescending shyt about young cuts not being able to cut the mustard in the big leagues and if anyone else has a problem, they can come see him in the ring. :birdman:

So....

...he doesn't have to say who he is and of course, it's Generico so he can speak that Spanglish and shyt. :troll:

Crowd and commentary'll be :skip: :blessed::lolbron::ufdup:

Heel will be :leostare: :what: :shaq2::camby:

Generico'll be :youngsabo: "Come se dice Sami Zayn? No comprende, amigo"

....right before he gives him the ginger luchadore beats. Next week or so, have the heel on that Mr. America-style witch hunt, trying to prove that it's really Zayn. Tag the kid up with Los Matadores in a few 6-mans to get his Ole heat back. Put the mask on the line at the next PPV. Generico wins, but takes the mask off anyway. :ahh: :win:

Goes back to being Zayn and now has a solid spot on the main roster, but kids can still rock the masks to support. Still has the Ole movement.
