:heh: Brehs can we talk about how Meghan NEVER talked about race until she married to Harry?

She wasn’t even that famous until she got with him.

:gucci:
:comeon: She was 1 of the stars on a popular long-running TV show before she got with Harry.

Side character
Rachel Zane (Meghan) was not that big of a headliner on Suits. Anyone could have played that role - stopppp.:laff::laff:
She literally dated nothing but white dudes on that show. She was not that significant to the show. Rachel was the most expendable character. That’s why when she left in the last season no one cared or noticed that much. Jessica, Harvey, Mike, Donna and Louis in that order. The only time Rachel stood out was when her tv dad, Robert Zane made an appearance.
:mjlol::stopitslime:

Let’s not act like Deal or No Deal required that much talent either. She was literally the weakest link on Suits.
:hhh::comeon:

:dwillhuh: She was literally the main love interest for the lead character on "Suits". That's pretty significant.

I never heard of her before Harry. She was not an A list celebrity, and she is talking about racism from the UK and royal family.

I’d be interested in hearing her experiences as a white passing biracial. From what I’ve heard from other white passing biracials, white people say all kinds of racist things when they don’t realize who they are speaking to, or in front of.

:mjpls:
Yeah......you're probably right. If you didn't watch "Suits" OR don't regularly keep up with Hollywood/TV/Film news, you probably didn't know who she was.

On a side note, am I the only one who has problem when the media refers to the British RF as "the royal family" or Queen Elizabeth, as "The Queen?" :patrice:

There's dozens of royal families out here :beli:

You do realize this is the UK press reporting on the UK Royal Family?

now what was i saying ... yes it is not generally accepted

i find that UK brehs fall into the trap of thinking the generally civil superficial treatment means that the society is accepting.

i definitely don't see a groundswell of opinion against the system

Is there general acceptance in the USA/UK that the royal family is racist?

Of course - the Royal Family is the epitome of elitism

They hate regular CACs and call them commoners

What makes people think they wouldn't hate a non-white just as much

I don't support the royal family but they're irrelevant politically in the UK, they don't make any political decisions and only have a figurehead role.

They're great for tourism and bring in money to the UK economy - that's effectively the stance most people take with the monarchy. They're a pompous novelty act that people like to watch and talk about :yeshrug:

yeah people write that off as classism ... and classism in the UK is generally accepted. criticisms of classism are generally muted.

the UK royal family is at the head of the establishment.

that's a bit more important than tourism etc that you mentioned.

'Of course the Royals are racist': CNN's Don Lemon says 'no person of color' was surprised by Harry and Meghan's racism claims because 'that's what the monarchy was built on'

  • Don Lemon reacted to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview on Monday
  • The couple had described how their decision to back away from the Royal family was fueled in part by racism within the monarchy
  • Lemon said he was not to hear those allegations because the monarchy 'was built on a racist structure'
  • He blasted 'privileged people' who said are criticizing Meghan for 'relevance'
  • 'Why don't you try to look at it with some understanding, with an open mind instead of always criticizing,' he said
Reacting to the interview on Monday, Lemon told CNN Newsroom anchor Brianna Keilar: 'I don't think Oprah or anyone that watched it, any person of color, is surprised that the British family, that there was racism there.

'That is what the monarchy is based on: heredity, hierarchy, a caste system, bloodlines. And so the whole institution is built on a racist structure.

'There should not be a "Oh my God, the British family is racist." Of course they're racist. That's what the entire monarchy is built on. The racism, the family that is supposed to be in it only by birth. And so far by birth it has only been white royals on the British throne.'

When Keilar mentioned how Harry talked about not noticing the racism until he saw it through his wife's eyes, Lemon said: 'That is what privilege is all about. If you don't have to deal with it, then it didn't exist for you.'

Lemon then launched into a rant against 'privileged people' who have blasted Meghan and Harry for sharing their stories.

'Before the interview aired there were people on social media saying: "I can't believe, why are they doing this, woe is me, they are rich, wealthy, royal," what have you, not even knowing what the interview was going to be about. Not even knowing someone else's existence,' he said.

Yeah breh they're the head of the establishment as "figureheads" - they have no real political decision making power and rightfully so they aren't democratically accountable.

They aren't even allowed to make comments on politics and have to remain neutral at all times.

Essentially, they're like a real life doll-house in that they get to keep their position as royals but can't exercise any political authority.

The monarchy is one of the only things the UK still has going for it and they're a net positive export for UK culture but they must know their place.

That's why Meghan coming and speaking so loudly is fukking up their image/reputation.

They even made her stop using Instagram and shyt like that

Truly, if she didn't want this life, she shouldn't have married into the Royal Family - but I doubt she would have married Prince Harry if he was the average joe anyway.

She wants all the benefits of marrying into the royal family, without the responsibility of keeping silent and following their protocols/rules

Well that's the cost of living of her living out disney fantasies:yeshrug:
