The simple truth is that this is a responsibility that lies on those within the United States Government. If Joe Biden and Kamala Harris can’t negotiate the freedom of an American citizen being prosecuted on what is most likely trumped up (falsified) charges then that constitutes a failure of our Commander In Chief. PERIOD.

I disagree with this take. Prisoner swaps are not one sided. It takes two to agree and both countries are back to cold war era style of politics. The probability that Russia makes reasonable demands is extremely low so Biden and the US government should not be faulted for not kowtowing to that.

I don't like this style of political opinions where if a situation doesn't happen favorably for your government it is their fault without regarding any type of context. It's a braindead take.

I feel bad Brittney got 9 years, but while I am sure the US Gov. will secure a release down the road, I hope this opens eyes to athletes who play in any other country that isn't in the United States. Just because your an American, doesn't mean your countries rules come over with you to another country. Thankfully this is Russia though, where at least there is some court, where with other countries you don't even get a legal system or the punishment isn't 9 years but death.

I know WNBA doesn't pay as much, but sometimes when another country calls with the bag, you need to to understand what the country is on certain things.

Is the sentence arguably too harsh? Yes, but people need to stop saying she has been wrongfully detained and convicted. She was legally detained and tried, period.

I’m not even going to necessarily blame celebrities as they don’t know the in’s and outs of the situation outside of her camp who should have known. I more so blame the media including an outlet like Time Magazine as these type of stories are their bread and butter and they knew damn well covering the story like they did was only going to make it worse.
