You had people on this forum saying that the administration wasn't doing shyt because they weren't updating everyone on what's going on behind the scenes. The US has had many prisoner swaps over it's history and it's never been broadcasted like this in the media. It's always been behind the scenes until it happened.

The constant need for validation that something is happening doomed any potential early deal but in all honesty Russia was likely never going to respond favorably. They fukking hate the US right now as we're the main military supplier of the nation they're currently warring with. It was never going to be a potential early deal anyways as there Russia was going to start negotiating until after the trial, which is why they didn’t bother responding to the deal prior. It makes sense when you think about it as they had to go through with the trial even if they wanted to accept the deal for optics in their own country. It was like the Gelo/China situation in where they didn’t want the optics to make it seem like they were more lenient towards citizens of other countries instead of their own and run the risk of making a mockery of your legal system.
