Symptoms of isopropyl alcohol poisoning include:
- Slurred speech
- Stumbling
- Sedation
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Dehydration
- Low blood pressure
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Difficulty breathing/pulmonary swelling (due to the excessive fluid in the lungs, leading to inflammation)
- Severe abdominal pains
- Shock and respiratory failure
- Bleeding in the stomach and intestines
- Internal burning
- Psuedo-renal failure/bladder rupture
- Coma
- Organ damage
- Death
Treatment/management
After being raced to the hospital, the following tests or procedures may be performed:
- Blood and urine tests
- Intubation (breathing tube)
- Chest x-ray
- EKG
- IV fluids
- A tube through the nose, into the stomach, to help pump the stomach/empty contents
- Dialysis for kidney protection
