Personally, I believe whoever asks the other person on the date should pay. Also, once you are together, each partner should take turns treating one another.

That being said, I also believe in traditional roles for the most part. I expect for my man to be a provider and protector and expect that I am going to take care of home and family. We both take on all tasks bc this is the 21st century, but our foundation is based in the traditional.

A few years ago my ex and I had broken up and there was this Turk-French chick that lived in the building that I would see often when I was chopping it up with the doorman downstairs. I asked if she wanted to get drinks since it was the last few days to be out before the temp drops.

Now all I knew about her was she had bread. Owned an interior decorating business, a few condos, a coffee shop and something else. So I go to my apt upstairs and told her I’d meet her downstairs in the lobby at 7. I was talking to the doorman again and as she is waiting on me to break the conversation, she hears it’s my birthday from him. She said I shouldn’t be taking her out on my birthday, she should be taking me out. She asked me to let her take me out for my birthday. I said

She took me to Bavette’s, one the best/most expensive steakhouses in Chicago, had them bring a cake out after dinner, then went to a rooftop for drinks and a piano bar I suggested for more drinks after that. Dinner alone was almost $300. She covered the tabs everywhere we went. Wouldn’t let me pay if I wanted. Said men need to be shown nice evenings too.

Man, this was almost a complete stranger and she showed me one of the best nights out I’ve had in recent years. And paid for it all. A very successful woman. Confident. No hang ups over this dumb shyt people say on social media. I respected her off what she had accomplished in her career without even knowing her beyond that. Why tf would I respect her less because she took me out on an expensive date?
