We need to hit Verlander early on Friday. That crowd is going to be exponentially louder than they were the first two games with them facing elimination. In the words of Negan, we need to shut that shyt down, no exceptions. This Astros team can turn it on out of nowhere. I don't want to play a game 7 in that stadium:francis:

:dahell: Sonny Gray is going to get at least 1 start at some point in this series. That will account for the Astros 3rd win, the Yankees will still have to deal with Keuchel & Verlander again at some point this series if it gets passed 4 games.

Can't quite pinpoint what Tanaka is doing better but it seems near the end of the regular season something clicked -- either with him or the analytics department.

He's still throwing his Slider but it looks like he's dialed back the Sinker to RHBs since it was getting crushed pretty good all year. Same with the Cutter.
He really seems to have taken more faith in his Splitter which...while it doesn't have as much movement as his sinker, the hitters are having a harder time elevating it.

I'm curious to see what the pitch selection was for tonight's game.

In total,

40 sliders
25 fastballs
22 splitters
12 sinkers
and just 2 curveballs and 2 cutters (the cutters were balls...likely waste pitches)

103 pitches in 7 innings
Not bad at all.

:patrice:So I guess whatever they was paying CC, they gonna have to turn around and pay Tanaka
Tanaka was already making $22m per against the cap, only 3 less than what CC's making this year.

Annual salary's not really the question with him if he opts out, it's a matter of do you want to give him a brand new 6/7 year contract that pays him $20 something million a year well into his mid-30s. I think they figure out and keep him around but it's definitely a tough one.
