For the month of June 2022, the number of overall shooting incidents again declined in New York City compared with June 2021,
continuing the downward trend in gun violence in the first half of the calendar year. Citywide shooting incidents decreased by 24.2% (125 v. 165), marked by declines in every patrol borough except northern Queens – where the tally rose by two incidents in June 2022 compared with June 2021. Additionally, the number of murders declined for the month by 31.6% (26 v. 38) compared to the same period last year. Overall hate crimes also declined by 8% (59 v. 64) compared to June 2021.
