Great album thus far. To those who are new to him, all his projects are a must but Shadows of the sun, champion ep, undisputed truth and the bite marked heart the MAN GOES OFF. If you ever get the chance you have to go see him live. Saw atmosphere and him a few times together, amazing performance

yuuuuuuuuuuuuuup those are my favorites from him too. all of them are classics imo

Album is amazing, probably the best album this year so far in my opinion. Exceptional, people will sleep but this album is truly great...

Holy shyt, Ant brought his A+ game for this one. Like, yeah, he's dope, but he's on some other shyt here. Beautiful soundscapes that perfectly matches Ali's rhyming and content. Dude must've been in a crazy zone working on the album. I don't even know what else to say.

Ali did his thing too of course. I said earlier in the thread that he never disappoints, and it still holds true. He's got his finger on the pulse of what we need to hear, and just pours it out throughout the album. Combined with Ant's wizardry, it makes for a whole lot of beautiful music.

How does this compare to Shadows?

Man, Shadows is always gonna be special to me, being the first and all that, but this album is something else. I've been listening since Wednesday, and it really doesn't have any weak spots IMO. There's a couple songs on Shadows that I can go without, but this one feels like every track is essential to the album.

I think Ant's production on this one is better than what he did on Shadows too. He really killed it. I don't want to say it's better cause it's way early, but I will say that I think time will be VERY good to this one. Not only has Ali not lost a step, he seems to be getting better.

I said on Twitter yesterday that unless Nas actually releases his album this year, and drops a BOMB, this is my AOTY, hands down. shyt made me forget all about 'DAMN'.

Didn't think I'd ever hear anyone say Ant possibly topped what he did on shadows.

I've always wondered why Ant didn't get more work.

I don't doubt that Brother Ali is a very kind man. But Dear Black Son is some of the most pandering, overwrought shyt I've heard in a minute.

Good dude who's music doesn't inspire me personally at all.

i think you could make the argument that brother ali is the best white rapper of all time. his catalog definitely shyts on eminems

it's waaaay more thoughtful and overall better music with much longer staying power ... Em has one of the most vacuous catalogues for someone of his caliber.

But I get what @Big Mel is saying, however, albeit hyperbolic. Ali can come off as a tad sappy and pandering at times...bordering on hokey. But I believe, by and large, it's coming from a good place.
