its a business...whatever helps the bottom line.
AP & Rice are bad for business, and Budweiser wants to be on the right side of this issue.
Them doing this makes them seem progressive.

Remember that guy who sang the Monday Night Football song?
He got fired because nobody wanted to be associated w/ him...same is going on w/ AP.

I think Peterson being bad for business is debatable. Bad PR doesnt necessarily mean bad for business. The NFL right now is the #1 topic in the country for better or worse....TV ratings are still coming in as per.

It's funny how they, the media, keeps describing it. He hit him with a "branch" with the leaves off...like he hitting his four year old kid with a log...not defending it he went over board but sheesh, the piling on in this country is crazy.

I was all for punishing ray rice bit damn, I don't want the man to lose his whole life because of this. Punish him but don't break the man...

Budweiser know better...they just brow nosing for the media...

There is a serious disconnect here between the media and the average guy who see's sports/football as an outlet on the weekends. As long as the ratings are strong, this grandstanding is just noise. And I think Goodell is a total boob.

After what has been billed one of the worst PR weeks in NFL history, fans did not turn off their TVs Sunday.

In fact, ratings for NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast of the Bears-49ers matchup were up 3 percent compared to a year ago, according to preliminary figures released Monday. The 14.0 average rating gave NBC the night’s top rating – including among adult females — over ABC, CBS and Fox.

Criticism is nothing new for the NFL, which has continued to flourish despite increased concerns about the league’s handling of head injuries, but some onlookers have speculated that the ongoing scandal involving former Baltimore running back Ray Rice might be enough to turn off fans.

But national and local ratings climbed. Although 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald is playing while facing a felony domestic violence charge, the ratings in the San Francisco-Oakland market Sunday night were the highest in the Niners’ home market in 11 years.

Sunday night’s game came just six days after TMZ released footage of Rice knocking out his then-fiance. The video prompted the Ravens to release Rice, and it also led NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell — who claimed he had not seen the video — to revise his initial two-game suspension and instead ban the running back indefinitely.

But Goodell’s avowal came into question Wednesday when the Associated Press reported that a person within the NFL had received the video from a law enforcement official months ago. The league has since launched an investigation headed by former FBI director Robert Mueller and overseen by two NFL team owners.

Then on Friday, news broke that another star running back, Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, was charged with child abuse for disciplining his son with a stick. Peterson has issued a statement. He did not play over the weekend, but is expected to play on Sunday.

In an interview with Only A Game on Friday, Sports on Earth’s Will Leitch said he believes the NFL’s handling of the Rice / Goodell saga and the league’s problems with domestic violence will damage the NFL brand.

“This is the first time it looks like the NFL is either being deceitful or willfully ignorant of a major societal issue that they seem to be perpetuating,” Leitch said. “Frankly, this is how empires fall.”

At least after one week, though, the empire only seems to be expanding.

Well, the larger issue is how parents (moms) view the game.
They are already seeing smaller amounts of kids playing Pop Warner.
These issues are going to make it worse.

The same company that sponsored the World Cup…..

seriously…..you nikkas have some nerve to be disappointed

Not just that they sponsored the WC, I believe they (well FIFA, pretty much on their behalf) had the laws changed so their product could be sold in the stadiums during the WC.

bu bu bu but women make up 45% of the NFL fanbase according to Hannah Storm...

I keep telling cats, nobody that adds to the ratings is boycotting the NFL over this domestic violence crap...

Hurting the brand how? There wasn't even a reduction in ratings the past two weekends and I believe there was actually a spike in ratings this weekend

Because more of these pundits and women's right groups are going to start protesting at the actual games and rally against any sponsor that is associate with the NFL until they resolve this issue. Also, a lot of these single parent (women) families may start steering their sons to other sports because they may feel that the NFL doesn't care about women and child abuse. Ratings doesn't matter right now because most men don't really give a fukk and just want to watch football on Sunday. But on a larger scale, they NFL needs to clean this mess very soon or it going to get worst for the league in the long run.
