Closing the forum registration for 3 years and counting is the worst idea imaginable. The point of mods is to moderate the forum and that includes moderating new members. If they don't want to do it then pick new mods.

Forums stay fresh and grow with a fresh set of ideas, posts, new faces which generate new curiosity, and good/fun energy that some newer posters can bring. This forum will eventually die many years down the line as people leave and there isn't the newer posters coming in to replace them because registration is closed.
