this was a mural dedicated to murdered children from when the city went thru a violent time.. the building is now a 'cafe' and the place where the hole is held the names of the children the mural was dedicated to. crackers turned it into a walk up window for demons to get their coffee

Yes...I have. When I came back to visit family last month it was the first time I had been there in two years...it's so different now. Especially east liberty...which might as well be called new shadyside.

Lawrenceville changed a lot too...same with bloomfield.

It's like they paved over East Lib and put up a parking lot (word to Joni). I'm really fukking sad with what happened to Shadow Lounge, that was one of the (few) great locations in the entire city for live hip hop and DJs and now it's just another overprice yuppie hellhole.

720 Records' storefront in Lawrenceville is closing in a couple days too, I gotta pay last respects before it becomes a boutique or a "speakeasy" itself

That's sad about 720...I used to grab a lot of records from there. (I remember when it was originally on Penn ave...then moved to where Jerry records was on Murray ave...then at its new spot).

And it was mad foul what happened to the shadow and ava....I used to go there heavily and I had a resident dj night at ava back in the winter/spring of 2008. So it's like I worked with Justin and Tim personally and they did so much for the Pittsburgh hip hop.scene and the Pittsburgh music scene in general.

Tbh...The shadow lounge opened up the doors for the "discovery" of East liberty to outsiders and in turn it made it popular. That's why it was a shame when they closed after pressure from Neighbors to quote turn the volume down" when it wasn't a problem prior. That came around the same time those high rises condos were being constructed. Now Pittsburgh just sucks for live music especially hip hop.

They brought so much flavor into the city...I spent so much time there. I miss it. I saw wiz Khalifa for the first time there back in 2005...One of my fondest memories.

This is mostly happening in Queens and Brooklyn, and to a smaller degree...in upper Manhattan.
The cutoff for whitey used to be like 95th but I've heard they've infiltrated up to like 115th.

even higher now. i grew up in hamilton heights on 136th and broadway. i didnt even realize what was happening til one day i saw a hipster rock n roll band or whatever they were moving into a building near mine. i was like wow we got white people now?

a few days ago i was looking through my instagram feed and i saw this dude on my block notorious for being a super thug put up a pic of himself with his new best friend. a white boy from cali that moved in . they were chilling taking selfies together smoking weed. so weird to see.

You're not lying... I've slowly seen it happening in certain areas of the Central Valley that are rural small towns... The crime rates are still "low" obut the types of violent shyt that you'd rarely hear about in certain areas is happening more often.

The dream of the city is something pretty much everyone wakes up out of in their early 30s if they aren't absolute millionaires. Most of the white folks moving to BK end up starting families in Westchester, the Rockaways or New Jersey.

And around the country cities are still kind of shytty. Im in Charlotte and it has its pockets, but for the most part the actual city is .... OK to party but to actually live pretty much everyone with money is in the suburbs.

People are fleeing big cities (especially up North) to come down south.... human physiology hasn't changed, we still like land to breathe and good weather. Pretty much all my friends who have settled down have left NYC

^^^bolded exactly right. This wouldn't happen if people owned their homes. Sure taxes always go up on their properties but they could take advantage of this. My in laws grandparents rowhome off Wilson and Halsey damn near worth almost a million. They bought it when they came to America from Barbados back in the 60s.

That's what you're saying until your home gets its value artificially inflated so that you can't live there anymore.

The predominantly black neighborhoods in New York City could have been made nicer and safer without kicking out the majority of the people who lived there.

What people are saying between the lines when they say that gentrification is good, is that minorities are unwilling to take care of their neighborhoods.

It's why Spike Lee kinda has a point when he yells out "We've been here!" when he sees the trash finally being picked up and the police finally taking calls ONLY when the community became white.
