Bryan alvarez brought up the same concerns i thought of this weekend here

http://media001.f4wonline.com/free/011214wol.mp3

They are starting..whether they knew it or not...a war with directv..and more importantly..comcast.

Their best broadcast partner over the years has been NBC universal.and they are owned by....comcast.

They are currently bidding their tv product...

They run the risk of comcast and directv saying "oh youre gonna undercut the pricing for pay perview..? fukk you we wont carry your shyt" and comcast going further and saying "and we dont want your tv product. Go sell your shyt to FXXX or whoever" costing them hundreds of millions of dollars.

That...and a million subscribers is just not going to happen...getting a million people to pay for wrestling whatsoever when they do that only once per year now at most...and their baseline ppv buyer base is about 100000 as it is...is not as realistic as it sounds.

This could be a really toxic combo of things for wwe if comcast especially shyts on them over ppv and then tv rights.

Which makes sense for WWE to go back to Viacom's Spike TV, which in turn would force TNA out of the channel and crippling them.

Floyd Maywether can sell his PPV's for 19.95 in Theaters but Vince can't? FOH.
thats a different experience all together, and floyd's contracts are directly with SHOWTIME and previously HBO; i'm certain that this is part of the language. On the contrary, the language of 'you can't sell WWE PPVs cheaper than what we do' is possibly part of PPV Providers' agreements with WWE...this could be a major legal battle if its in there

Comcast remembers what USA was like during the TNN days, there not gonna throw the E to the bushes.

On top of that Vince is selling the WWE Network on a different platform (The Internet) he can sell PPV's for whatever the fukk he wants to.

but according to DirecTV he can't. Word is (and it is logical that) there is an agreement that he cannot undercut the TV price of PPV...

DirectTV takes 60% of PPV Revenue from Vincent K McMahon.

Any WWE fan who orders PPV's from DirectTV, will buy the WWE Network

Vince could care less if Direct TV drops the PPV's.

They are mad now but DirecTV's logic here is that "no money from PPV is better than less money from PPV" which makes no sense. Remember, WWE isn't doing away with PPV. There are people who will still order them.

Comcast and these other cable companies are desperate for live programming, things that are impervious to DVR, Netflix, Hulu and the like. RAW is still one of the most consistent shows on cable drawing anywhere between 3.5-4.2 million viewers a week and there's no offseason. It's 52 weeks a year. That's a lot of live programming. NASCAR has less of a proven track record and they received billions in TV rights. I don't think WWE will get NASCAR money but I doubt anyone tells them to go take a hike.

All the points you're making are legit, but I felt like the press release DirecTV did had a tone of :whoa:We gotta rethink how we're dealin with WWE and situations like these, dont wanna come up looking like Blockbuster. That's just my impression though. The wording was something like "we have to rethink how we're dealing with" blah blah not so much calling WWE out on being in breach of contract.

it could be a problem, but the WWE Network doesn't take anything away from the networks/companies who air RAW, Smackdown. They will still air and get the same ratings. PPV has always been optional. As long as the ratings remain consistent, then what else are they gonna fill that slot with that's any better?

Havent they been selling live PPV's on WWE.com for a while anyway?

How much are those?

Vince owns the product, DirectTV and Comcast will both lose regardless... or at least they better lose.

I want a la carte options for cable TV.

I just hope you are prepared for the cost associated with that

For myself, yes, I am.

The inclusion of options for the consumer shouldn't bring up the cost to those who subscribe to CableTV.
However, I do recognize that Internet "costs" will magically increase... regardless of how much these Telecoms are purposely price gouging.
