Also another reason to be connected to your community you have a business in!

Was your black business in a community which you interacted with the residents daily...or did you do like arabs and have your business there but you live miles away? Act scared of the residents and walk around with the :mjpls: face all day?

Because generally the residents of a community know "Keith who owns the joint at 45th and 118th." In fact Keith would be out there with the rioters because he's part of the community! Not posted up there with a gun telling people to leave his shop alone :sas1:.

Look at all the people here justifying the burning of businesses. People who had nothing to do with the actual act of injustice. There is only 2 ways for riots to end. Either people get tired and shut it down. Or the police put it down, violently. A lot of people in Minneapolis thinking it's a free for all are going to go to jail when the police use face-matching software to determine who's who. If you're going to agree with the rioters fine. But don't act like this part of any grand plan to achieve equality because it isn't. Don't act like this is the first salvo in some much larger struggle because, as history has shown, it probably isn't. All this will do is destroy the community, destroy jobs and leave the actual people worse off than they were before. You guys should watch the clips, in many videos, it is White people starting and inciting the violence. This is not by an accident. They know that by starting the violence bystanders will follow them. Then instead of talking about justice for George Floyd, we find ourselves talking about violence and riots. Come back to this thread in 2 months or 2 years and let us see how much better off Minneapolis is because of these riots.

The Land That Time Forgot
These places won’t come back either. Already suffering due to a pandemic, this just extinguished them for good. Folks get caught up in the moment and can’t see the long term effects it will have on the community while they chant “burn it all down” from their stay home quarantine

For real, "urban" riots are just fertilizer for small black business displacement and long-term white real estate development. That's what the history tells us.

The breh probably won't be able to afford the comprehensive/all-risk insurance that will be required of him to rebuild in that section of Minneapolis.

Honestly feels like some shyt the cops would do to win over public opinion.

Police deny link to mysterious ‘Umbrella Man,’ who broke windows during riot

Who was the mysterious Umbrella Man and was he a cop?

Speculation had social media buzzing Friday after an unidentified man in a gas mask and carrying an open umbrella smashed the windows of an AutoZone with a hammer during Thursday’s riots in Minneapolis.

According to video of the incident, protesters seemed to know immediately the man was an impostor.

The incident has gone viral on social media with the hashtag #UmbrellaMan.

Unrest has escalated in the days since the death of George Floyd, a black man who died Monday after a city police officer, who has since been charged, kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes as the man yelled “I can’t breathe.”

On Thursday night, protesters set fire to a police precinct.

Elsewhere, other buildings were set on fire, Target was looted and other businesses were destroyed or damaged.

But protesters at the AutoZone didn’t recognize the Umbrella Man, who walked around casually breaking at least four windows of the business.

Some paused their demonstrations to call the man out.

According to video of the incident, protesters seemed to know immediately the man was an impostor. The incident has gone viral on social media with the hashtag #UmbrellaMan.

“Those cops will come for you if you’re pulling that crap,” said Brad Svenson, the Minneapolis man who recorded the video. “That’s garbage, pulling that s---.”

Another video on social media showed a man in a pink T-shirt start following the man as he tried to leave the scene. “Guy just came with a hammer and smashed the windows,” said a woman.

“Are you a f---ing cop?” someone else can be heard asking.

Video showed the masked man walk swiftly through an open gate and across a parking lot while refusing to answer questions or remove his mask.

Once video of the incident hit social media, the speculation began.

Is the umbrella man who smashed the AutoZone windows during the Minneapolis protests a cop? What do you think?

“A bunch of undercover cops were the main ones starting the arsons!!!!!! Spread the word!!!” several voices claimed on Twitter.

“Convince me this guy that started s--- at autozone windows is not a COP,” another person tweeted.

“Here is a video of the incident which shows protesters trying to stop him from smashing the windows,” another Twitter user posted along with the video. “We need to be aware of police purposefully creating violence just to give justification for future forceful reactionary measures. The narrative is ours and we must control it.”

But the man’s identity has not been verified. The mask he wore revealed his eyes and skin color. He wore all black, complete with gloves.

Some people speculated the person was an undercover police officer acting as an agent provocateur whose actions were meant to stir up more anarchy.

The St. Paul Police Department issued a statement Friday saying one of its officers, Jacob Pederson, had been misidentified by social media activists as the man seen in the video, calling the posts on the platforms false. Police officials said Pederson had an alibi and that his whereabouts checked out for the time the incident occurred.

“We are aware of the social media post that erroneously identifies one of our officers as the person caught on video breaking windows in Minneapolis. We want to be perfectly clear about this: The person in the video is not our officer," the statement read.

A report by the online news magazine Heavy said the department declined to answer whether police knew the identity of the person.

A separate report by Insider about the case said, “Those who believe he is a police officer cite unconfirmed reports that Pederson’s ex-fiancé, who has not been named, identified him as the man in the mask.”

Jacob Pederson of the St. Paul PD is outed as the individual who smashed the windows at AutoZone. Police are posing as protesters burning buildings to portray a false narrative. This happened in 2015 and it's happening again. #BlackLivesMatter #GeorgeFloyd #MinneapolisUprising

The John F. Kennedy assassination
The term “Umbrella Man” also refers to a figure who was in Dealey Plaza on the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Louie Steven Witt was identified by the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations in 1978 as the man who opened and raised an umbrella as shots rang out on Kennedy’s limousine on Nov. 22, 1963.

The umbrella man came under some suspicion after the Zapruder film revealed he was one of the people standing closest to the curb toward the president’s motorcade, carrying an umbrella on a sunny fall day. Conspiracy theorists of the time speculated the umbrella may have been a signal to the shooters.

Also, the fact they burned down a Black business tells you what's up. They are destroying and looting indiscriminately. And all the people in this thread supporting it are just keyboard warriors. Big talk online but what are you doing in the real world. Celebrating the fact that that dude raised more than enough money on Go Fund Me. That money could have gone to actual productive shyt. Instead of just rebuilding something that we chose to burn down. People in here celebrating and defending the rioting like it's the magical elixir that will solve all our problems. Even people in here tht support Black Business are celebrating the burning down of Black-owned businesses. Get a grip. That's why the police just let the buildings burn. Because no one gives a fukk about the neighborhood. Not the people that live there. Not the police that oppress the community. And not the firefighters. How about these rioters go and burn down the nice part of town. Then we'll see how productive riots are.

Yup my old head told me about Jefferson Ave in Buffalo smh
Yup,
I’m from the East Side of Buffalo and the old heads told me the same thing. Also, most of the people in this thread have no idea what it takes to start and run a small business. I owned a small furniture store for about a year before I decided to close shop. It was one of the most stressful times in my life, so I fully understand why he would be emotional. Also a major part of changing our situation is getting more Black owned businesses so they can hire Black employees. Too many people want to turn up with no plan of action. I wouldn’t even be mad at destroying property if it is targeted and part of a bigger strategy. But destroying random businesses makes zero sense.
