I hope Jaz O gets paid for using his instrumental. That's not a looping of the "7 minutes of funk" sample, that's the actual "aint no nikka" instrumental. The reason I know this is how Jaz explained his process in creating it and it's the exact intro of the drum fill. It's impossible to get a straight loop of the beat because it's off. EPMD's "it's my thing" isn't even a perfect loop. I tried to loop it in the MPC years ago and couldn't so I had to do it like Jaz said and he's not lying. I actually used 5 pieces instead of 7 as Jaz claimed, but the loop point is at the snare to keep it flowing consistently.

I like this track though. The mixing of the older and newer generation is great. We need more of this.

regardless how he did it, it's STILL a SAMPLE and it ain't Jaz O's no matter how "perfect" he did it.

actually it is by law. If you sample from a master recording, you've got to pay the artist you sampled AND the artist they sampled from. So Jaz, jay, and whole darn family members of the group. For example, if you sample Jay's vocals from Dead presidents, you must pay Jay, Ski Beats, Lonnie Liston Smith(dead presidents sample), Nas, pete rock, and cleared "the world is yours" publishing owners. I don't think Jaz or Jay would pursue it in court, but that's music biz law whether we like it or not.
