I go with the theory that he hired an assassin (or his son did it) and he was at the murder scene after the kill to check it out, probably peeping through the bushes while it was done. Explains the minimal blood on his clothing. Goldman fought the killer and no way somebody don't get face bruises in a serious fight, especially life or death - you go all in
