i know conventional wisdom says buy a used car BUT... if I have the opportunity to cop a new car (2019) with good incentives thats only a few thousand more than a 2016 with certified warranty... WHY wouldn't i just go new?

I'm tryna make sense of this. Dave Ramsey the gawd says go used but he aint really give a good reason. :beli:

Adding more info for context

i can afford both. cash too. So let's say these are my options

brand new 2019 Honda Accord Sport, 0 miles for $26K MSRP for vs 2016 Honda Accord Sport 18K miles for $23K

I can knock the price down off the new car with dealer incentives and the price of the used car would go up for an extended warranty. but taking that away, the difference is only $3K. why wouldn't I go new?

i wouldn't buy 3/4 yr old used assuming you plan on keeping long term. used to me is 2 yrs old. you still will have nice amount left on manufacturers warranty and won't miss out on any tech/features.

You should go by mileage not whether or not somebody spent money on the car before you did.:dahell:

A used 2015 Charger that belonged to some old lady with only 9k mileage is a better purchase than a 2018 Charger the was owned by a highway patrolman and already has 110K miles on it.

The average car lasts around 150K miles
or 300K if it's extremely well maintained.

Obviously a newer car has less miles than an old car, but if you can find an older one that has low mileage you're just wasting money buying a newer one.

Using his logic you could also buy a new car that isn't going to lose alot in value.
No car short of supercar status is keeping value like that with only a few exceptions. None of which, Im assuming, are within his range because if have that kind of money, then you dont ask these type of questions.

Some cars like Toyota or Honda can be bought new as their value doesn’t depreciate easily. Plus you can get Toyota care and buying a new car on your car insurance means that with a deductible you can pay off anything.

You don’t need to buy any warranty.

The crazy thing is i have friends who don't have cars. I ask them why and they say they can't afford it, and then proceed to quote prices of 2019 cars. :dead: and complain about leasing and auto loans.

I'm like breh,:dahell: you don't have to spend 80k on a car. My first car was 1995 Geo Metro and it cost me $850 bucks.
I worked my up to newer shyt and i still get mostly 5 year old cars.
