Because in the US, the cable industry is effectively a monopoly. You only have 5 or so choices for cable: TWC, Comcast, Dish, Direct TV, and FIOS. AT&T, Comcast, and Charter. Allen is accusing them of putting policies in place to shut out 100% black owned media companies from competing. If those companies shut you out, then your TV station is basically dead in the water.

He's suing for such a large amount to get them to settle for what he really wants which is more control in the TV/cable arena. Even if they settle for 2% of this thats a huge some of money for an independent business. This dude should be applauded white wife or not.
