I'm sure the teenagers you work with don't make money from the rap industry. Sorry the Kardashians are too big to not know Ray-J and Brandy is a mainstream artist. No one is expecting him to know every single lyric but go into Country music and not know the major names and see how their fans respond.

He's another Post Malone type. Only rapping and Hip-Hoppin cause it's profitable but deep down he doesn't give a fuk about the culture, the artists that laid down the blueprint, etc, etc.
Growing up he likely never listened to Hip-Hop or any type of Black Music in general and only became interested as of late because of what I previously said in the last paragraph.

Everybody can't know everything. The word "artist" is broad as AF. I watched his breakfast club interview and he said his mom put him on to Public Enemy, Goodie Mob, and Outkast as a kid. That's as much as I could expect from someone his age involved in Rap. I wouldn't kill a 2022 NFL draft pick for not knowing who Sugar Ray Leonard was even though their both pro athletes.
