When your kids are involved that shyt goes out the window. I can definitely see myself not backing down from someone with a gun if it’s about my kids. As a man, you de-escalate when another man’s kids are involved. That should be a given.

Never assume what another man is going to do. If a dude pulls a gun on you and tensions are high people are likely to make impulsive decisions in the moment.

Given he had rights to see the kids at that time, they would be in violation of a court order and he can call the police to come mitigate.

The fact of the matter is if a person pulls out a gun, assume they are likely to use it. Trust me, the kids probably would have preferred he lived to see another day and continue being there for them instead of giving into his emotional impulses in the moment and now instead of not seeing him at 315, they are seeing him at neveroclock.

Once he said "I'll take your gun and shoot you with it!" and attempted to do it, it's Self-Defense. Pure and simple.
