The same way people will ignorantly and reactively speak out against transexuals because they have fear of change is the same way people ignorantly and reactively spoke out against blacks integrating into society. It's rooted in the same ignorance. That doesn't mean the struggles are the same, or even of an equal weight, it just means the oppression is coming from the same source; ignorance and fear. It's possible to draw parallels to different struggles without equating them.

There is no comparison between disgust for self-mutilation and people being persecuted for the color of their skin...Calling a middle aged man who thinks he's a woman stuck in a man's body insane is not in any way shape or form equivalent to hating on a man cuz of his skin color...

@mrken12 It's really not that hard of a link to understand. Dr. King himself spoke out against the Vietnam War and class warfare for this very purpose. Hoarding victimhood is not the way to enlightenment or freedom. Have you read any thread on the coli about this issue? The language and arguments being used are often literally the same ones used against us during the Civil Rights movement. "It's not natural", "What's next, animals?", "Keep it to themselves", etc. If you believe transgenderism is wrong on principle, that's your right. A lot of people believed integration was wrong on principle. But to say there's no comparison between the discrimination of the Transgender community and the discrimination of the black community is disingenuous. They're both challenging a dominant status quo in Western society in the name of acceptance. That doesn't mean the struggles are equal, it just means they're fighting the same foe.
