His reasoning is pretty sound too...he doesn't think anyone could ever get the voice right and didin't want to have the wrong voice be what people "hear" when reading the printed work.

Man a friend put me on to calvin and hobbes back in 7th grade and I loved it. Would save up cash to buy the big books like Yukon Ho. Whenever my family would take road trips down south I would always have a couple of those to read while traveling through boring states like Illinois (corn for miles).

I wish bill waterson would have never retired the strip. it was soooo piff. as a kid I had all the books and read them a bunch of times. definitely better than peanuts or garfield.
