I get his reasoning for not diving on the ball. With that said, his mistake was running to the ball straight up as if he was going to pick the ball up. He would have been better off just taking one step and diving to it. Not multiple steps.

People forget the ball bounced back to him anyway, he just couldn't get it.

Does being a sore loser make you a winner? Does losing with bitterness get you a consolation prize?

To me, I think he didn't dive because u could clearly see his center Ryan Kalil make a dive for it before he could react. I think he would've dived for it, but since Kalil was making a play for it, he prolly felt that if he and Kalil were to both go for it, they would've collided and prolly not take control of the ball. Like when two outfielders in baseball trying to catch a pop up.
